PLAXIS VIP is an additional subscription system on top of the traditional licenses. With PLAXIS VIP you benefit from the latest releases of your PLAXIS software, special extensions and support from Plaxis technical experts. Upon purchasing a PLAXIS license, 1 year of PLAXIS VIP is required.

Extended Features
The special extensions are modular enhancements to PLAXIS software products and are exclusively available to PLAXIS VIP members. They provide new or extra functionalities, are fully compatible with the base product and are easy to learn. For members of PLAXIS VIP there are several extra features available in PLAXIS 2D and PLAXIS 3D.

PLAXIS VIP protects your investment in geotechnical tools because it will keep your PLAXIS software up to date. Each time a new version of your PLAXIS software is released, you can contact us for a license upgrade. It can’t get any easier than that. Update packs will become available as downloads on our website, and you are automatically entitled to the latest licence key upgrades.


SoilTest can be used to simulate real life soil tests. We demonstrate how to gain better insight in the behaviour of soil models and improve quality of model parameters.

With the triaxial test we can test soil properties while controlling the stresses applied in the vertical and horizontal directions relative to the specimen.

In PLAXIS 3D 2016 the CAD import functionality has been improved, supporting *.DXF, *.STEP and *.brep formats. NURBS surfaces, solids, splines can now be imported easily. Native Autocad solids can be imported without the need of discretizing them into triangulated objects first. This does not only save you time in Autocad, it has benefits for PLAXIS as well. Because of the absence of triangulation, the PLAXIS 3D mesher can more easily create better meshes with less elements for both simple and complex projects, by using the mathematical representations of the imported objects. 

Multicore calculations

Calculation in PLAXIS 3D 2011 and later: multicore calculations

Since the release of PLAXIS 3D 2011, the user may choose different solver types to solve the matrix equations:PLAXIS 3D 2011: multicore settings

  • Picos (multicore iterative). It stands for Plaxis Iterative Concurrent Solver library. Picos is an efficient iterative solver that solves the system of equations in parallel on multi-core processors. It is generally the fastest way to perform calculations.

  • Pardiso (multicore direct). It stands for Parallel Sparse Direct Solver. Pardiso is a direct solver that solves the system of equations in parallel on multi-core processors. It is generally the most robust way to solve equations, but it has also the highest memory consumption.

  • Classic (single core iterative). This is the iterative solver that has been used in the previous PLAXIS 3D version: PLAXIS 3D2010. It solves the system of equations using only a single core on the processor.

Imported CPT Logs

Generate Stratigraphy from imported CPT Logs: The soil layering in a borehole can be specified using available CPT logs. In this video we will demonstrate how to import these into PLAXIS 3D.

This functionality is also available in PLAXIS 2D


Remote Scripting API

Remote Scripting API for Input and Output: Since PLAXIS 3D 2013 it is possible to run scripts written in the Python programming language. This functionality enables us to automate the workflow of an iterative design process. We can make quick changes to a model, using pre-defined design parameters. We will create a Python script that generates a model for drivemining. The script includes soil, structure, mesh, staged construction and calculation. This remote scripting functionality is now also available in PLAXIS 2D.

Sensitivity Analysis and Parameter Variation

Sensitivity Analysis and Parameter variation are features for PLAXIS VIP subscribers. They enable us to analyse the influence of variations of parameters on the computational results.

PLAXIS 3D Tunnel Designer

This movie shows how to define a tunnel, a trajectory and how to divide the trajectory in the to-be-excavated tunnel segments by using the new 3D Tunnel Designer available in PLAXIS 3D AE


With the release of PLAXIS 3D 2016, it is now possible to add rockbolts to tunnel segments in the Tunnel Designer directly. Users can assign multiple rockbolt configurations to the same segment or assign the configuration across multiple segments. An offset, length, as well as the number of bolts and their spacing along the tunnel perimeter and along the trajectory, can be given to each configuration.

We are excited to announce some major improvements and new functionality in the PLAXIS 3D 2016 release.

Multiply command

This movie demonstrates how to use the multiply command to conveniently change values for a collection of load values, thermal or flow conditions or discharges.

Support both Rectangular and Polar array tool 

With the polar array tool, you can effortlessly copy objects in circular patterns. Useful to create circular shafts, and forepoling.
